Driving Record Reports

Does your company employ drivers? Do your employees drive either a company or personal vehicle for company business?  Do you want to check for patterns of recklessness or substance abuse on your employees?

If the answer to any of these questions is yes, then you’ll want to order a motor vehicle or driving report on your applicants and/or employees.

Patterns of recklessness or substance abuse are frequently reflected on a driving record. A suspended license or poor driving record can expose a company to liability if the employee is irresponsible or negligent.  Checking your applicants’ driving records is recommended if operating vehicles or equipment as an essential part of an employee’s position and investigation. If your company employs drivers, this search is an essential element in your safety record, insurance premiums and protection against costly lawsuits.  The driving record serves as an additional source of identifiers as well as verification of name, date of birth, and current residence. The MVR may reveal undesirable character traits or patterns of behavior (i.e. repeated traffic violations, DUI, DWI, etc.)

BackTrack offers both state motor vehicle records and the Commercial Driver License Information System (CDLIS) report.  State motor vehicle records are pulled from the state Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) for all 50 states and contain information on your applicant’s driving history, including traffic violations, suspensions, revocations, type of license granted, and restrictions on use. In some states, convictions for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs are not on a criminal court record and can only be revealed through a DMV check.

CDLIS is a federal clearinghouse and repository of commercial driver licensing data.  The CDLIS enables the states to exchange information about the driving records and drivers licenses of Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) drivers.  This helps assure that only one license is issued to a driver and that drivers currently disqualified are prevented from obtaining a Commercial Drivers License (CDL).

For persons who may drive either their own vehicles or a company vehicle in the course of their jobs, it is imperative to verify they hold a current, valid driver license as well as verify the applicant’s driving record history.

In addition to performing MVR searches prior to hiring job candidates with driving responsibility, we can also help you perform annual MVR searches on all current employees with driving responsibilities. This is important, since motor vehicle violations or changes in license status can also occurafter an individual has been hired, and many of our clients do perform these yearly driving audits.
