06/19/2012 - Should We Screen Seasonal Employees?

The summer season is upon us, and with it begins the hiring of seasonal workers.  Many of these potential hires are college students or young adults trying to make extra money.  Is it really necessary to go through the time and expense to conduct a background check on these short-term hires?  At BackTrack, the answer is an emphatic YES.

Employers need to make good choices with all new hires, even those who will only be working for a few months.  Remember, these seasonal hires do not have long-term goals with your company.  They understand their time with your firm will be limited.  While most come on board with the best of intentions, a comprehensive background check will help identify those who may not be completely above board.

Even if you are bringing back a previous summer hire we strongly recommend an updated background check.  You haven’t seen or heard from this individual for several months and there are no guarantees there haven’t been any problems during this time.  An updated criminal records search, at the very least, will clear up many questions.

Your business and your employees are worth protecting.  Be sure you are hiring the most capable and trustworthy employees at ALL times.  Contact BackTrack at 800-991-9694 to discuss our recommendations for your seasonal hiring needs.
